This week has seen Queen Latifah own the headlines, as she portrayed the titular role of Bessie Smith in the HBO film, Bessie. Documenting the life and times of Bessie Smith, a star in the 1920s, Queen Latifah signed up for some really raunchy stuff. But, it made for that much of a better story.
Queen Latifah has faced lesbian rumors for well over twenty years, but she has yet to address them. Feeling she should not, Queen Latifah agreed to do lesbian love scenes in the Bessie movie. This week, the Bessie movie aired and people have had a lot to say about it.
Just as she did in Set It Off, Queen Latifah really sold being a lesbian. This comes in spite of her also having love scenes with men in the movie, such as Michael Williams and Mike Epps. But, the people only focused on the lesbian scenes and Queen Latifah’s nude scenes, saying a lot about it on Twitter.
