There are countless people out there who say they want it. Meaning, there are a lot of “promoters,” “rappers,” “businessmen,” and more “professional” types who fill up social media. As one works more, they learn these people simply are good at creating a lot of noise.

For every ten people like that, there is one Dali Voodoo, a person who simply works. Because of the aforementioned reasons, it is tough to claim being a rapper and be taken seriously. The reason for this is because only a handful of rappers actually rap.

Dali Voodoo actually does make music and he has gotten it noticed by the right people. Gaining contacts isn’t the easiest thing to do, but it isn’t impossible, either. So, for those who are looking to get into the game, Dali Voodoo shared a bit of his story here with Hip Hop Vibe.

Read the entire interview below:

When did you start creating music? When I was younger, I used to sit in front of the TV watching “106 & Park” and MTV. I started learning and performing the songs they played in my living room. There never was like a point when I was like “I wanna make music.” It just sort of happened because I was tired of learning other people’s words and wanted to perform my own music!

Who are your creative influences? If I had to say three artist that made huge impacts on my creative process Prince would have to be my number one. He has always been really dope to me! His music is poetic and it wasn’t always meant to be taken literal. R.I.P. Prince! T-Pain also played a huge role influencing my music with his catchy repetitive melodies, and the third would have to be Lil Wayne. His wordplay has always been crazy!

Have you had the chance to perform shows or start touring? It’s crazy because I was able to get on really big shows before I was able to release any music. I got to go on tour last year and my first show was opening for Post Malone. It was cool because it was his first sold out show in Tampa, Florida thrown by Bootleg Kev and Dope Entertainment. I got the opportunity to do a sold out show with Waka Flocka and chill with him afterwards. He was real cool! Earlier this year I did a show with Chief Keef in Dallas at the Gas Monkey Live in front of 3500 fans and Young Thug in Denton with 3000 fans! So, I’ve been blessed to be able to do what I love in front of a lot of music lovers!

Did you have any mentors in the industry that helped guide you? Two years ago I did this audition with K104, a radio station in Dallas and one of the judges was Steve Lobel who’s a legend in the game! He gave me some really sound advice. Later in the year after A3C my manager Louie, G.U.N., and Rizzoo Rizzoo flew out to his mansion in L.A. and got to have a really motivating talk in this mans living room. Seeing all those Award winning plaques with legends like 2Pac, Nas, Biggie, Bone Thugs and more on this mans wall was surreal. It showed me anything is possible if you don’t get too comfortable where you are at!

What are your goals 2016 and beyond? Some day I see myself doing arena tours and festivals where I can really let my creativity run loose! Of course award shows and it would be really dope to be featured as one of XXL’s freshman! God’s always had my back and I believe he’ll bless me with all this becoming reality!

What can we expect next from Dali Voodoo? I just released my first two tracks “Swing Low” and “Glasshouse” and next was set to be a visual, but after this Orlando incident I think my next release will be a song titled “Ppl.” It’s a track that talks about how we all say we’re created equal but we don’t treat each other like it! Something has to be done by the people that can speak out against atrocities and actually make an impact! I have a small voice right now but it won’t always be like that and I plan on making a difference in people’s lives! My first project, Mad Boys Need Love, will be coming early 2017 with my own first personal tour following soon after! We’re planning on bringing a few special guests with us in every city so it should be really dope!
