A man from Crockett, Texas was recently arrested and charged with aggravated robbery or allegedly robbing a Citizens State Bank in Groveton, Texas. Heath Edward Bumpous approached a bank teller at the window, telling them that he had a weapon. He then demanded money and was subsequently given the amount.
Bumpous was getting married the next day and didn’t have enough money to buy a ring. So this was his move apparently.
“He basically stated that he was getting married tomorrow so he didn’t have enough money for a wedding ring that he wanted to buy and he needed to pay for the wedding venue,” Sheriff Woody Wallace stated.
Soon after the police were called, pictures of the suspect were posted on Trinity County Sherriff’s social media. Authorities were calling upon the public to help in identifying the alleged bank robber.
One person who did step forward and help was Bumpous’ fiancee.
“His fiancée, who he was supposed to marry tomorrow, was able to get in touch with him on the phone when she saw our post on Facebook. She knew it was him. She contacted him and asked him if he robbed a bank … she convinced him that she knew it was him. His picture was all on Facebook. He needed to turn himself in,” said Wallace in a video posted to his Facebook page.
Thanks to his fiancee, Bumpous had a change of heart and turned himself into the Houston County Courthouse. He was then booked into the Trinity County Jail. Most of the stolen was recovered along with a concealed gun as well.
