“Bling Bishop” Lamor Whitehead sentenced to 9 years for fraud, extortion

Bishop Lamor Miller-Whitehead is known for his opulent lifestyle and viral robbery during a livestream. Now, he has been sentenced to nine years in prison for a series of financial fraud crimes. The crimes incude wire fraud, attempted wire fraud, and extortion. Federal prosecutors say the crimes, which also involved lying to federal agents, netted him millions of dollars.

Miller-Whitehead is the head of Leaders of Tomorrow International Ministries in Canarsie, Brooklyn. He was convicted in March. The charges stemmed from defrauding a parishioner, attempting to extort a businessman, and submitting fraudulent loan applications. This is according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams described Miller-Whitehead as a “con man.” In addition, he said he abused his position of trust.

“Lamor Whitehead stole millions of dollars through various frauds and even preyed on his own parishioners,” Williams said. “His sentence today reflects our commitment to hold those who exploit their positions accountable.”

Attorney Dawn Florio, representing Miller-Whitehead, maintained his innocence. As a result, she vowed to appeal the conviction.

“We are deeply saddened by the outcome. Despite this setback, we remain steadfast in our belief in Bishop Lamor Miller-Whitehead’s innocence and are committed to continuing the fight,” Florio stated.

Miller-Whitehead gained notoriety in July 2022. When he and his wife were robbed of $1 million in jewelry during a livestreamed service, he gained viral fame. Known for his flashy lifestyle, Miller-Whitehead drove a Rolls Royce. Also, he lived in a $1.6 million home in Paramus, New Jersey.

In addition to his prison sentence, Miller-Whitehead has been ordered to pay $85,000 in restitution and forfeit $95,000.
