The hip hop scene in New York City went through its fair share of suffering. In 2003, the hip hop scene took a major hit with the retirement of Jay-Z, DMX also ending his career, and then Ja Rule’s career being decimated. Over the following years have been tough for the New York City hip hop scene.
Last year, New York City enjoyed a nice return to prominence. French Montana, popular due to his influx of mixtapes, had penetrated the mainstream rap game. He worked with many of the top names in the game and gained popularity, on a national scale.
While French Montana has enjoyed much success over the past year, he is not the only rapper from the Big Apple making moves. One rapper is actually named after one of the most-legendary rappers ever. A$AP Rocky, the leader of the A$AP Mob, has been making a name for himself both in New York City, and outside of the city. His crew has members from a number of areas, which has helped him gain popularity.
A$AP Rocky recently made comments about New York rappers, which he felt were taken out of context. Vlad TV caught up with the rising Harlem rapper, giving him a chance to clear his comments up.
