Alabama mother accused of trying to drown son in bathtub
A shocking incident from Alabama sees a mother is facing serious charges. She allegedly attempted to drown her 10-year-old son in a bathtub. Ashley Elizabeth Jones, 34, from Sheffield, is charged with aggravated child abuse following the harrowing ordeal.
The abuse reportedly occurred after the boy expressed a desire to live with his father, with whom Jones shares joint custody. This distressing statement seemingly triggered a series of abusive actions that culminated in the attempted drowning. According to police reports, the incident took place between April 15 and April 21.
The situation escalated when the boy complained about being splashed with bleach by his mother. Trying to wash off the bleach in a bath, the child was then forcibly submerged in water by Jones for approximately 45 seconds. To escape, the boy pretended to be dead, which finally made his mother cease her actions.
After surviving the ordeal, the child was locked in a closet for around three hours before he managed to contact his father, pleading for an early pick-up. Upon his retrieval, visible bruises and scrapes were found on his body, which he attributed to his mother’s actions.
Initially reluctant to discuss the abuse, the boy eventually disclosed the details to his father, who immediately alerted the authorities. Despite agreeing to discuss the allegations with police, Jones did not show up and was subsequently arrested.
Scheduled to appear in court on May 20, Jones’s case continues to unfold as the local community reels from the severity of the accusations.
