Watching Cardi B, this year, should be motivation enough for anybody who wants it. Looking at her, it is clear nothing was handed to her, as she built it all. What Cardi B did do was leverage her popularity into a spot on “Love & Hip Hop.”

Using “Love & Hip Hop” to put her on the map, Cardi B used the audience to further promote her music. All of the viral hits led to Atlantic offering her a huge deal. From that point, it was sink or swim for Cardi B, but she ended up hijacking a ship.

Cardi B has dominated most of the summer, one defined by releases from DJ Khaled, French Montana, Future, Kendrick Lamar, and Jay-Z. It became a situation where everyone took the backseat to her. After all, her “Bodak Yellow” single was more successful, on the charts, than all of their singles, threepeating at number one on Billboard, breaking Lauryn Hill’s record from 1998.
