Charlie Wilson receives star on Hollywood Walk of Fame 

An iconic figure in r&b and soul music receives a long overdue reward. Music legend Charlie Wilson is awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The special ceremony took place this past Monday, as Charlie proudly displayed his Hollywood status. Surrounded by celebrities like Snoop Dogg, Ty Dolla $ign and Kanye West, Charlie’s ceremony was a star studded moment.

With a career reaching more than three decades, Charlie Wilson or “Uncle Charlie’s” influence is bigger now than before. As the original lead singer of The Gap Band, his voice dominated most of the 70’s and early 80’s. After more than 15 albums together the group separated and Charlie started his solo career. Charlie’s popularity in music grew, as his first solo album under Jive Records included producers like Pharrell, Justin Timberlake and will.i.am. Popular solo singles include “There Goes My Baby”, “You Are” and “Magic”. Charlie has also collaborated with Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, Common, Big Sean and recently Don Toliver.

As Charlie accepted his Hollywood star, he spoke about how his life after moving to Los Angelos and his struggles within music. Charlie who was once a drug addict and homeless, is now celebrating his star on the same streets he once slept on.
