Damian Lillard requests trade from the Portland Trail Blazers
Damian Lillard is one of the most electrifying players in NBA history. In addition, Dame is one of the NBA’s most clutch players. Somehow, none of that has been enough for Lillard to win a championship. Obviously, the Golden State Warriors have had a lot to do with that. However, the Portland Trail Blazers have failed to put a good team around Dame since their 2019 Conference Finals run, which the Warriors ended. After much protesting, Dame has now requested a trade.
Damian Lillard has been tied to trade rumors for well over a year. In 2022, Dame missed the season due to injuries. During that time, CJ McCollum was traded, to the dismay of Blazer fans. As a result, many expected Lillard to also leave. However, Dame said he wanted to stay in Portland. He cited guys like Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook becoming journeymen, after previously being franchise players as his decision to stay.
Damian Lillard reportedly spoke to the Portland Trail Blazers’ front office about putting a team around him for 2024. This put an end to the trade request rumors, briefly. However, there were rumors about the Miami Heat being interested in Dame. Definitely, a Heat squad with Dame and Jimmy Butler would be expected to return to the Finals. Regardless, James Harden is also interested in a Heat trade. According to sources, Dame is now asking the Blazers for a trade.
