There was quite a bit of backlash aimed at Drake and J. Cole over the “Jodeci Freestyle.” If rappers have learned anything about 2013 is they need to be efficient with their punchlines and they should apologize swiftly if there are problems. Drake watched his buddies, Lil Wayne and Rick Ross, get in enough hot water to avoid it.

Yesterday, J. Cole penned his apology to all those he offended with the lyric in question, which is a line referencing autism. With his album barely a month old, J. Cole has no reason to make unnecessary enemies. Most rappers who aim to have longterm success in the rap game try to avoid ruffling feathers, anyway.

One day after J. Cole apologized for his offending lyric, Drake has stepped up to apologize for his part in this issue. While Drake did not say anything offensive, it was his song ultimately. Now, hopefully, all is well between Drake, J. Cole, and all those offended over the lyrics.

Read Drake’s apology letter below:

J.Cole wrote a beautiful and moving apology to individuals and families affected by autism who were understandably hurt by a verse in “Jodeci Freestyle”. I share responsibility and offer my sincerest apologies for the pain this has caused. Individuals with autism have brilliant and creative minds, and their gifts should not be disparaged or discounted. This was a learning lesson for both of us, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to try to right this wrong. J. Cole and I believe that it is the right, responsible, and respectful decision to remove the lyric from the song.
