Attention started going to Drake in 2009 and it caused a bidding war. Everyone knows the story of how Drake signed with Lil Wayne at Young Money. Since then, Drake has released a laundry list of hit singles. Drake is now promoting two new hits, “Started from the Bottom” and “5 AM in Toronto.”
Since his earliest days in the music industry, Drake has been a member of BMI. But, the other members of his team, such as Noah “40” Shebib and Boi-1da have been members of the ASCAP organization. Perhaps feeling left out, Drake has decided to make a change when it comes to where his music is represented.
Talking to Billboard this morning, Drake revealed he is now a member of ASCAP. The members of the organization spoke on Drake now being an ASCAP member. Drake and his music are in safe hands, as his “Started from the Bottom” single remains in the top five on Billboard’s charts.
Read an excerpt from the Billboard interview below:
“For me, a big part of making music is getting the opportunity to work with people I love, trust and respect,” Drake says. “As an organization run by music creators, ASCAP represents a whole community of kindred spirits. Joining ASCAP was just a natural choice for me because I know my music is in the best possible hands.”
