Undoubtedly, Drake is enjoying the biggest year of his career and he did it without dropping an album. In the place of his album were a couple of mixtapes, one with Future, and plenty of singles. Late in the summer, he dropped “Hotline Bling” and truly celebrated.
Early in the year, Drake was challenged by Tyga and Chris Brown, ignoring their disses. When Meek Mill came at him, however, Drake could not ignore it. The dancing Drake did in the “Hotline Bling” video was likely his celebratory dance.
A couple of weeks ago, “Hotline Bling” was well on its way to becoming the top song on Billboard. But, his allegiance to Apple Music prevented him from getting his first number one Billboard single, likely making him briefly question passing up on Jay Z’s TIDAL. Now, “Hotline Bling” has slipped to number three on Billboard Hot 100, as Adele burst out with “Hello.”
