Fifty-eight years after his brutal murder, Emmett Till has become a household name, once again. Unfortunately, it was not about the word being spread about the injustice surrounding his death. Instead, Lil Wayne used his death for a punchline on his verse on the remix of Future’s “Karate Chop.”
Future came out and defended Lil Wayne, saying he did not mean anything by the line, which no one questioned. Health issues and Rick Ross’ comments on Rocko’s “U.O.E.N.O.” took the heat off Lil Wayne. The family of Emmett Till actually wished Lil Wayne well, despite him not responding to their grievances with him.
Feminists groups protested Reebok enough for them to drop Rick Ross from their roster of sponsored artists. In spite of all Rick Ross’ success since 2010, Lil Wayne remains a much bigger artist with more sponsors. Now, the family of Emmett Till are going after the companies who sponsor Lil Wayne.
