Last summer, Frank Ocean made a lot of major headlines when he revealed his first love was a man. In other words, Frank Ocean pretty much revealed he was gay and he has since taken his relationship with his boyfriend public. Frank Ocean, previously, had portrayed himself as the shy guy who ends up winning the girl.
Being more honest with himself, Frank Ocean released Channel Orange to critical acclaim. There were some lyrics on the album that alluded to Frank Ocean being into men and some that alluded other things. Frank Ocean came clean about the guys, but his song, “Lost,” refers to himself as a drug dealer and getting a girl caught in that life.
Frank Ocean revealed to Oyster Magazine that he was a part of that life too. He revealed he used to be a thug and he sold a lot of crack. Before he got in too deep, he dedicated his life to music, pretty cliche, but Frank Ocean insists that was another excerpt out of the story of his life.
Read an excerpt from Frank Ocean’s Oyster Magazine interview below:
“I was a thug,” said Ocean. “I sold a lot of cocaine and crack.”
When Oyster’s editor Zac Bayly asked the “Thinking Bout You” singer if he really sold drugs, Ocean responded, “all the time.” Bayly even followed up with a simple “really?” and Ocean gave a simple “yep.”
“As a young person I didn’t have, for lack of a better word, I didn’t have a Joe Jackson in my family,” said Ocean. “I didn’t even have a parent who encouraged what I did in that way.”
