Logistics have made it possible for Hip Hop Vibe readers to become Hip Hop Vibe VIEWERS and watch the interviews we do. It’s been fun traveling through LA and meeting various artists who are impacting the game. Meeting Compton’s Supra would’ve been fun, but was logistically illogical.
Supra is Compton born and bred, but he is living in Houston and making a life for himself in Texas, nothing wrong with that. Most are just getting hip to Supra, but he’s doing his thing. Recently, Supra dropped his second album of the year, Superb, which was well-received.
Hip Hop Vibe reached out to Supra for an interview and his team immediately responded and it came to be. The readers are in for a treat, as they learn how Supra views the game as a successful, independent artist. He also talks about the movement he is a part of, Golden Wings Music Group.
Read the entire interview below:
Being from Compton, what do you take from the rappers who have come before you? Never forget where you come from and never forget the people that surrounded you.
Who are some fellow up-and-coming Compton rappers you rock with? Dr. Dre, of course, Kendrick Lamar, Problem, and Skunkee Brewster.
What led to your relocation to the Houston area? My mom said God told her to move to Houston and that woman has been through hell and back on my behalf, so it was only right to make the move with her. I have to say, I’m glad I made it I feel like I wouldn’t be in this interview with y’all if it wasn’t for the leap of faith.
Can you tell us more about your new album, Superb? Superb came to me in a dream in mid August I kept hearing the word in my head when I woke up went to read the definition of it and it fit everything I was trying to do with the music and my clothing Line. Felt it was only right for it to be the second chapter of this year far as Album releasing.
Seeing how you worked with Ryan Alexy and Kaddie Lak on this new project, are you a fan of North Carolina hip hop? Most def. Those are my bros on the label, Golden Wing Music Group. I am not really too familiar with the hip hop scene out there, but I always have been a fan of 9th Wonder.
How important do you feel it is for artists to work with people outside of their area? VERY. Man, think about it, if you get cracking in another city, you got a place to call home when you do event out there and mischief shit (laughs.)
Superb is your second album of the year, that’s a lot of work, what is your recording process like? Pray, rap, eat, repeat, and sleep for thirty minutes here and there, when I can.
You are a member of Golden Wings Music Group, can you tell us more about the label? 24k man 24k. It’s a beautiful movement, just a bunch of creative geniuses that won’t settle for the dull shit in life and only focus on making every product we produce shine among the viewers.
What are some other ventures you’re involved with? I’m a photographer for a company called Celestial Visuals based out of Houston, Texas, soon to be world wide, and I have my own clothing line called CanWeMoney.
Where can fans connect with you online? Most def Twitter @ThatNugga_Supra and soundcloud.com/thatnugga_supra.
