Irv Gotti rumored to be headed to Atlantic Records

While the past decade has been rather tough for Irv Gotti, he was once one of the most powerful executives in the hip hop industry. Irv Gotti was among the rising hip hop executives, as he held his own along with Sean “Diddy” Combs and Damon Dash. Starting out as an A&R for Def Jam, Irv Gotti soon helmed hip hop’s biggest movement, Murder Inc., which was led by Ja Rule.

The past ten years have been rough and Ja Rule even left Murder Inc., though he still remains a part of the company. Last fall, Irv Gotti returned to headlines when he spoke with Sway Calloway for MTV’s “RapFix Live.” During the interview, Irv Gotti stated he would love to take over at Def Jam, receiving support from Russell Simmons and Young Jeezy for this.

During this period of time, the rumors of Irv Gotti heading to Atlantic Records resurfaced. Since 2009, Irv Gotti has hinted of potentially setting up shop at Atlantic Records. Irv Gotti was offered the president position there in 2005. During Trey Songz’ album release party, Irv Gotti was present, alongside several other Atlantic Records’ executives, re-igniting the rumors.
