Jay-Z and Robert Kraft launch Books Unbanned 

Just days ago The Brooklyn Public Library opened their doors showcasing The Book of Hov Exhibition, a unique dedication to Jay-Z. Fans and current library card holders had the opportunity to get a first look at the attraction. Jay-Z along with Beyoncé and daughter Blue Ivy made an appearance during the opening. . In addition to honoring Jay-Z and his contribution to music, a new partnership was revealed to the public. In an effort to combat the banning of books, Jay-Z and Robert Kraft announce their initiative Books Unbanned.

The new collaboration targets the issue surrounding critical race theory, and the racist book ban happening across the nation. According to the Pen.org more than 2,532 books were banned between 2021-2022. Among those cancelled, involved subject matters surrounding racial segregation, LGBTQ, slavery and other historical content. This also includes picture books, biography’s and more.

Both Jay-Z ‘s organization The Shawn Carter Foundation and New England Patriot owner Robert Kraft’s Foundation to Combat Antisemitism donated 1 million to the cause. This donation will provide pro bono legal services to educators and librarians who are battling the ban. In addition to providing financial support, the Books Unbanned, initiative hopes to re-print most of the banned books.
