Jay-Z drank D’Usse from his Grammy during the award show
Jay-Z has made his disdain for the Grammys clear, in the past. On the “All The Way Up” remix, he bragged about pouring D’Usse in his actual awards. During last night’s ceremony, Jay-Z called the institution out, during his acceptance speech. After that, in the middle of the show, he poured D’Usse into the actual award, and drank from it.
Jay-Z is one of the smartest hip hop artists of all-time. At a time when rappers were trying to showcase indulgent lifestyles, Jay was making real business moves. As a result, he owned a percentage of the label he recorded for. When they got a distribution deal, Jay was an official Def Jam partner. This opened the door for him to run Def Jam, eventually opening the door for Roc Nation.
Jay-Z’s belief in ownership makes him reluctant to support things like the Grammys. However, he holds the annual Roc Nation Brunch during Grammy weekend. Many people who would be otherwise overlooked attend the event. This year, he didn’t hold the event. Also, he called the Grammys out during his acceptance speech. Finally, he poured D’Usse into the award, and ended up drinking from it.
