Jennifer Lopez files for divorce from Ben Affleck after two years of marriage

Jennifer Lopez files for divorce from Ben Affleck

Jennifer Lopez has officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, with the paperwork submitted on August 20, per TMZ. This date holds special significance as it marks the second anniversary of their grand Georgia wedding, adding a layer of symbolism to the split. The filing took place in Los Angeles County Superior Court and was done pro per, meaning Lopez represented herself without an attorney.

Lopez has listed April 26, 2024, as the date of separation. Notably, the divorce documents do not mention a prenuptial agreement, suggesting that any assets or earnings accumulated during their nearly two years of marriage will be divided as community property. This could have substantial financial implications for both parties.

In her filing, Lopez has waived her right to spousal support and is requesting that Affleck be denied any spousal support as well. Since they do not have children, there are no custody issues to resolve, which simplifies part of the process.

Despite their separation, the financial and logistical aspects of the divorce remain unresolved. Reports indicate that negotiations have become increasingly strained, with the couple reportedly not speaking at times. Their former Beverly Hills home is currently up for sale, while Affleck has purchased a new house in Brentwood. Lopez is also in the market for a new home, reflecting the significant changes both are undergoing.

This divorce also comes after Lopez and Affleck also dated in the early 2000s. However, that engagement was called off in January 2004.
