Each year, Kendrick Lamar has watched his buzz increase. Now, the Compton rapper finds himself the focal point of a drastically different West Coast hip hop scene. Signed to Aftermath, he is the latest protege of Dr. Dre, thus making him Interscope Records’ flagship artist. Kendrick Lamar has had a major impact, with his success prompting Interscope to offer a joint venture to his original label, Top Dawg Entertainment.
Kendrick Lamar became an undeniable star last year, following the release of Section.80, his critically-acclaimed album. The album was a major success, opening doors for Kendrick Lamar, catching the attention of Snoop Dogg and Game, among others. Section.80 led to Kendrick Lamar getting signed, but unlike rappers of the past, he decided not to have this album be his debut. On the other hand, he billed it a street album and prepared an official debut album.
October 2 is when Kendrick Lamar plans to release good kid, m.A.A.d. city, his official debut album. The album is only a few months away and Kendrick Lamar has a unique opportunity to promote the new project. BET recently reached a deal with Kendrick Lamar, with him partnering with BET’s Music Matters. They have come together for a 23-stop tour, which will begin on September 7 in Norfolk, Virginia.
