Two years ago, Kendrick Lamar saw his success peak and suddenly he became the biggest rapper in the game. His official debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d. city, had him everywhere and fans were eager to see more of him. Given the consistency Kendrick Lamar had, releasing an album a year until his mainstream debut, many hoped he would keep going.
Instead, Kendrick Lamar decided he would take time off from making music. He promised fans it would be a long wait for his next album. Two years after good kid, m.A.A.d. city, Kendrick Lamar has just begun working on his next project. Just in time for the fall, he returned with his single, “i,” the official song for the new NBA season.
Kendrick Lamar recently did his New York City media rounds and he talked to DJ Whoo Kid at Shade 45. In their interview, Kendrick Lamar discussed the “i” single and how he obtained Ron Isley’s permission to sample him. He also talked about Eminem, Dr. Dre, and George Clinton.
