One of the first true internet hip hop stars, Mac Miller has been a groundbreaking artist throughout the course of his career. Like many mixtape rappers who gain large followings, a bidding war ensued over Mac Miller. Unlike many mixtape rappers who gain large followings, Mac Miller did not entertain any offers.
Instead, Mac Miller decided to remain independent to release his first official studio album, Blue Slide Park. Given his large following, Mac Miller wanted to see how many records he could sell without a major label. Mac Miller eventually set a new record for most sales from an independent artist.
Mac Miller has since returned to the mixtape level, releasing Macadelic. During his recent visit to Los Angeles, Mac Miller spoke to Karen Civil about his newest project, a mixtape titled Pink Slime and his upcoming tour.
