When it comes to New York hip hop, Maino is the one who held the city down when there was no one else. But, in 2011, French Montana took the reigns and helped bring the proper shine back to the birthplace. Since then, every part of New York City has found hip hop success.
Even with all that, there is not enough to crown one artist over the other “king” of New York. Not to worry, since the race is tied up, Kendrick Lamar helped himself to the title and challenged rappers in every other state. The only people who responded are those with no real voice (just being honest), while the big buys have tight lips.
Maino stopped by Shade 45 and talked with Sway Calloway of “Sway in the Morning” about what’s going on. Like all the others, Maino is disappointed in the way things have gone down. In his interview, Maino called the New York hip hop scene soft among other things.
