Megan Thee Stallion is arguably the biggest breakout star of 2019. Her 2018 single ‘Big Ole Freak’ is on the Billboard chart and her ‘Fever‘ project which was released in May, is being approved heavily by fans of her. She’s also been buzzing for her new relationship with CMG rapper, Moneybagg Yo.
Megan’s calls her fans “hot girls” and proclaimed that it’d be a “Hot Girl Summer” a few months ago. The term is becoming so popularized that we’re starting to see brands try to say it and now, she’s going to make sure she’s compensated well for the trend. According to Billboard, Megan in the process of trademarking Hot Girl Summer.
The paperwork first started being filed on July 10 at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Documents state that the catchphrase will be used on “Shirts and short-sleeved shirts; A-shirts; Body shirts; Dress shirts; Graphic T-shirts; Hooded sweatshirts; Long-sleeved shirts; Open-necked shirts; Over shirts; Short-sleeve shirts; Sleep shirts; Sport shirts; Sports shirts; Sweat shirts; T-shirts; Tee shirts; Tee-shirts; Turtle neck shirts; Yoga shirts.” A fan on Twitter suggested the trademark on that same day and that’s when she revealed that it is happening for sure.
No artist has said this catchphrase in the past or popularized it so there’s a good chance that Megan could successfully trademark it. Cardi B recently tried to get her signature catchphrase “Okurr” trademarked but that failed due to it surprisingly being labeled as a common word.
