Even after being a part of No Limit Records, Mystikal’s career did not truly take off until he returned to the solo scene. When Mystikal released his series of hits in the early 2000s, he was a Jive Records artist. Despite the success of the New Orleans hip hop scene, it has been very separated. First, there were tensions between the first successful New Orleans labels, No Limit Records and Cash Money Records.

Following their feud, the artists who left Cash Money Records began feuding with the label, establishing their own record labels. Throughout this all, Mystikal continued to release his music. At one point, Mystikal was the most-popular artist representing the New Orleans hip hop scene. Upon serving time in prison for six years and returning, things have changed.

Mannie Fresh was the in-house Cash Money producer, but he left to start his own record label and no longer has ties to his former label. When Mystikal returned from prison, Mannie Fresh was one of the first people he worked with. After rebuilding his buzz on the streets, Mystikal signed with Cash Money Records. Mystikal announced his album in the works and Mannie Fresh said his production would be on the album. Birdman spoke on this and said he hopes Mannie Fresh’s work does not make the final cut and banished him from the Cash Money movement. Mystikal downplayed his part in any sort of feud.
