Hands down, 1998’s hip hop rookie of the year was DMX. The Yonkers rapper went so hard, he released two albums that year. Toward the end of the year, DMX began working on Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood. On the cover of the album, one of the most graphic ever, DMX is covered in blood.
Just looking at the cover of the album set the tone for the actual music. Fifteen years after the fact, it is evident that DMX is unstable. At the time, however, DMX was viewed by the hip hop world as a dark and moody emcee. Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood gave into this dark and moodiness he possessed.
Now, the man behind the cameras of the album cover shoot, Jonathan Mannion, gives his side of the story. One of the more historic albums in history, based on the cover, many wondered how everything came to be. Jonathan Mannion gave answers to this and more during his interview.
