The current buzz around Chicago hip hop is comparable to the peak period between the years 2003 and 2006. There is new air in the city as many of the hardest-working artists in Chicago are beginning to gain fame. Chief Keef enjoyed much success during the spring, leading to his signing to Interscope Records.
Rockie Fresh has also been releasing a steady stream of music. Similar to Chief Keef, he was able to build his name without major label support. This morning, Rockie Fresh revealed he was the latest artist signed to Rick Ross’ Maybach Music. Now, one of Chicago’s most-popular unsigned artists remains Sir Michael Rocks.
Sir Michael Rocks has been making his rounds, working with the likes of Billionaire Boyscout, among others. There has been much discussion about his street album, Lap of Lux. The discussion continues, as Sir Michael Rocks continues to release new music. Now, he has lined up the project for an August 2 release date.
