“The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” may have been the first hip hop sitcom in television history. Most consider the show iconic and, at the least, a hip hop version of “The Cosby Show.” It was heartbreaking to start 2014 with the death of James Avery, who played the role of Uncle Phil.
Tatyana Ali played Ashley Banks, the baby girl on the show. During the 1990 through 1996 run, viewers watched young Ashley grow up. At one point, her budding music career ended up becoming a plot for the show, taking center stage in one episode.
It’s been almost eighteen years since “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’s” final episode aired. Even more time elapsed since “The Arsenio Hall Show” aired, but it came back last summer. Arsenio Hall recently invited Tatyana Ali to the show and she spoke on her past with “The Fresh Prince” and her onscreen father dying, before she performed her “Wait For It” single.
