The Weeknd is first artist to reach 1 billion Spotify streams in 2022
Earlier this month, The Weeknd released another huge album, with “Dawn FM.” This project was led by the “Take My Breath” single, and featured appearances from Lil Wayne and Tyler, The Creator. Narrations were also included from legends such as Quincy Jones and Jim Carrey.
Last week, The Weeknd set a Spotify record, with the most monthly listeners. He passed Justin Bieber, at 85.6 million, per month. Now, the Canadian superstar has achieved another milestone, on the streaming platform.
According to Chart Data, The Weeknd is now the first artist to pass 1 billion streams, in 2022. This also comes after Dawn FM debuted at number two, on the Billboard 200 chart. This album was battling it out with Gunna’s “DS4EVER,” for the top spot.
The Weeknd now has two top two albums, in less than two years. The last album release came back in March 2020, with “After Hours.” That topped the Billboard 200, and had two number one hits in “Heartless” and “Blinding Lights.”
