There is a reason the 1990s are credited for being the best decade in hip hop. A lot of real music came out during this era that remains with the world today. In 1995, TLC dropped their classic second album, CrazySexyCool. The album was successful, but turned a new corner when “Waterfalls” was released.
A nice play in words, “Waterfalls” is about someone going about their ambitions in the wrong way. Older people, a lot of times, will look at a young person who may be doing too much and tell them they’re “moving too fast.” Old myths say people like this are getting it all in now because their time in life will be short.
Describing a young man who eventually gives up his life to the game of hustling, TLC left a major impact on the game with “Waterfalls.” Those who understand the lyrics probably get a chill every time they hear the song. This song is one of the best ways to let someone know they need to slow it down and get focused.
Chili, T-Boz, and Left Eye (may she rest in peace) did their thing on this song, which deserves more rotation on those radio throwbacks at noon.
