Maybach has been a longtime leader in the hip hop world when it came to cars. Hands down, all of the “who’s who” in hip hop own a ride. Of course, Rick Ross gave his biggest endorsement to the Maybachs in 2008. Rick Ross featured Jay-Z on the major Trilla song, “Maybach Music,” and later coined his label the same name.
But, the Maybach’s history in hip hop goes back well beyond Rick Ross. During his run in the early 2000s, Ja Rule boasted the Maybach and rocking suits. However, Jay-Z’s name is probably more synonymous with the vehicle. Game dissed both rappers and their love for the luxury car.
Hip hop’s endorsement, however, was not enough to keep the Maybachs in production, though. While the car is still popular and Rick Ross is keeping the name alive, the company announced they were ending their run. With 2013 in full swing, the Maybach has officially run its course after a 104 year run. But, the world will forever have the memories.
In 2011, the Maybach received a major hip hop boost, especially after Rick Ross signed Wale and Meek Mill to his Maybach Music label and there were several rappers to feature the ride in their video. Jay-Z and Kanye West famously stopped the game with Watch the Throne and in the music video for “Otis,” they crashed a Maybach for fun. Unfortunately, Maybach was unable to have more customers to have this ability to keep them going.
While the Maybach has ended their production, Rick Ross feels this only adds to their legacy. Maybachs always were in an exclusive class of their own, but now there is much more exclusivity surrounding the car because there will never be a new one. As long as there are rappers, the Maybach will live on. Two years ago, Diddy famously purchased a $500,000 Maybach for his son, Justin Combs, who had just turned sixteen.

Hard to say goodbye, the Maybach officially ended with their 2013 model. Still, as Rick Ross and others have said, the brand will live on through the memories. Back in 2003, the Maybach trend was started by Jay-Z, as he rapped about it on his single, “Change Clothes.” Often ahead of his time, Jay-Z started a trend that would be taken to the next level by his former artist, Rick Ross.

Jay-Z, Kanye West, and the Maybach brand
Back in 2003, Jay-Z elevated the rap game to levels previously unexpected. When Jay-Z “retired” to take over the helm of Def Jam, he showed the world how cool it was to wear suits and be professional. Ten years later, the rap game is on it. He also introduced Maybachs to the game and they have since been mentioned by 50 Cent and many others, who rapped about his the same year Jay-Z retired. Jay-Z first mentioned and displayed a Maybach on his “Change Clothes” single and later demolished the one above in the “Otis” video with Kanye West.

Lil Wayne, Birdman, and the Maybach
Though they deny it, YMCMB has drawn much inspiration from Jay-Z and his movement. From 2007 through 2011, Lil Wayne patterned himself after Jay-Z. But, in recent years, he has back away from his competition with the Brooklyn rapper. However, once the money came, YMCMB was not immune to the effects affording a Maybach can have. Lil Wayne purchased a 2011 Maybach for Birdman, who in turn purchased an $8 million Maybach for his big brother, Slim.
Diddy and the Maybach
Of course, there cannot be any list of any exotic cars without mentioning Diddy. When it comes to the cars, Diddy owns them all. A true boss in the game, Diddy caused a media uproar when he bought a $500,000 Maybach for his son, Justin Combs and they did things big for his sixteenth celebration.
