Kevin Durant injures his ankle at the end of overtime

This has been one of the best NBA seasons in years. There has been so much action that it’s easy to overlook the Milwaukee Bucks as the defending champions. Early in the season, the Golden State Warriors started winning like they used to. The same Phoenix Suns that Giannis’ Bucks beat for the title raced out to the NBA’s best record. For 1/3 of the season, the Chicago Bulls were the best team in the East. Waiting in the wings, the Miami Heat took that and claimed it, until the Boston Celtics took it for a day.

Coming into this season, the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets were expected to meet in the NBA Finals. Honestly, some critics treated the regular season as a formality. The regular season has been a formality, just for the Suns and Memphis Grizzlies. At times, Joel Embiid, Ja Morant, DeMar DeRozan, Steph Curry, Karl-Anthony Towns, Giannis, and Devin Booker have played like the MVP. As the Suns keep winning, there is a push for Booker to win the MVP.

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving expected to be MVP candidates this year. Instead, Kevin Durant has dealt with injuries all year, and Kyrie Irving has missed 75% of the season. The Nets had a “Big 3” with those two, and James Harden. But, Harden was traded to the Sixers for Ben Simmons, and he won’t even be playing this season. As the Nets lost to the Bucks, Kevin Durant hurt his ankle. The Nets are now in an even tie with the Hornets and Hawks for the eighth seed.
