Papoose was once the hottest free agent in hip hop. Pap was DJ Kay Slay’s flagship artist, the franchise player. Together, they made Papoose into the hottest thing on the streets. As a result, Papoose signed a $1.5 million deal with Jive Records. With the machine behind Papoose, he was supposed to take over the game. However, Papoose backed out of the deal, and this didn’t happen.

On “Drink Champs,” Papoose explained that the Jive Records deal wasn’t for him. While some have said that Papoose was never meant to be a star, they were wrong. Papoose has actually had more commercial success than many “commercial” rappers. Since 2015, Papoose has consistently been on television, via the “Love & Hip Hop” franchise, and he’s been on daytime TV.

Last year, Papoose released a new album for every month of the year. The September album saw Papoose get the mainstream looks he was always capable of getting. Papoose scored an unexpected hit with “Thought I Was Gon Stop,” featuring Lil Wayne. Pap got Remy Ma, among others, for the remix, and it was a big hit. Now, Papoose is back with “I Got A Plan,” featuring Fabolous and Jermaine Dupri.
