Thomas Burgundy adds to the legacy of West Coast, specifically Los Angeles, hip hop. There is the G funk sound that was made popular in the early 1990s. This specific sound ended up giving birth to countless legends. After that, the West Coast fell from the mainstream. When they, again LA specifically, returned to the forefront, they borrowed from the hyphy sound. A decade later, Thomas Burgundy is delivering “Chili Watermelon,” and the G funk influence is obvious from the start.

Thomas Burgundy went all out for his “Chili Watermelon” single. In his own words, this is Burgundy’s love letter to the West Coast. Also, he has taken the West Coast’s traditional G funk sound and blended it with hip hop and soul music. This helped to create a whole different kind of vibe to a sound that’s been around for generations, now. Critics often criticize music for sounding the same, but Thomas delivered a new take on what could be considered the “same” music.

Thomas Burgundy brought the whole hood out for the “Chili Watermelon” video. Burgundy is definitely a part of the Los Angeles hip hop scene, but not from LA proper. Instead, he’s from Lynwood, which is a smaller city within Los Angeles County. With his whole hood behind him, Thomas brought “Chili Watermelon” to life. This song is the lead single from his second album and the launch to his clothing line, Burgundyizm’s t-shirts.
