In 1997, the game was much different than it is now. This was when Next was putting together their album, Rated Next, which went on to become a classic. The group made a strong debut with their album and the second single, “Too Close,” would go on to become a classic.
Next dominated the end of 1997 and the first part of 1998 with “Too Close” and that period of time is missed. Later years would see Next move into the veteran category. The homie, DJ Kid Fresh, is actually the official tour DJ for the group.
Eighteen years have passed since Next dominated with “Too Close” and the song gets major spins and traction, still. The song is a classic and it deserves as many looks as possible. Because of this, “Too Close” is this week’s Wednesday Throwback.
