Forever, there will debate on the kind of artist R. Kelly is and the answer is he’s the only R&B artist still going platinum. Having moved into the icon category, he’s made different genres of music. With the moves he’s made, people have a hard time defining “the R.”

In 2000, R. Kelly released TP-2.com, the sequel to 12 Play. On this album, he continued making moves away from his explicit content, moving more towards some form of gospel. This was the lead single into his 2000 opus.

R. Kelly released “I Wish” during the fall of 2000, dedicating it to the people he lost in his life, while recounting his success. Because of the emotion in this song, R. Kelly easily scored a classic with this one. Recounting this moment in R. Kelly history, “I Wish” is this week’s Wednesday Throwback.
