Most people will agree, the best part of the year is the summer. After a long winter, especially up North, it feels good to have two months of hot weather and free time. For twenty-one years, the hip hop summer has been defined by DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince.

By 1992, DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince were known as Will and Jazz from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” Great marketing, Will Smith played a fictional version of himself on the show and Jazz also got in front of the camera. Still just as hip hop as ever, the duo dropped their fourth studio album, Homebase, in 1992.

A remake of Kool & The Gang’s “Summer Madness,” DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince released this song right on time. Expanding well out of hip hop, popular Saturday morning show, “Saved by the Bell,” used the song for the intro of their summer series. No matter how much time passes, everybody is right back in the early 1990s when “Summertime” plays.
