This spring, Bobby Brackins gained fame when Ray J chose to feature him on a song he had in the works. Ultimately, this song ended up being “I Hit it First,” which without directly saying it, is talking about Miss You Know Who. It served as a great outlet for rising West Coast rapper, Bobby Brackins.
But, Bobby Brackins has been making moves before “I Hit it First” and he has continued making moves after this. Solo, Bobby Brackins has the “Big Body” single, which features fellow West Coast rising stars, Clyde Carson and Ty Dolla $ign. This past week, Bobby Brackins released his new single, “Jungle Fever.”
“Jungle Fever” is included on Bobby Brackins’ upcoming mixtape, Maxwell Park, which is to be released on July 16. With only a few days remaining, until the mixtape is released, Hip Hop Vibe reached out to Bobby Brackins. He talked to us about “I Hit it First,” his new single “Jungle Fever,” and Maxwell Park, his new mixtape.
Read the entire interview below:
How did the whole “I Hit it First” song come together? Basically, it was just us coming through the studio. I was working on a song for him and then the idea for the song came to me. My friend started making the beat, we all had good chemistry in the studio, and then the track came together.
Have you and Ray J known each other for a while? Yeah, we have known each other since 2010 and we have kept in contact.
With your new project coming out, will Ray J be featured on it? Definitely, he is featured on a song called “Rari.”
Do you have goals of pushing “Jungle Fever” as a single? It’s just, honestly, a really good song that we have a dope video for. I am using this to get my fans excited about Maxwell Park coming out. I have the video coming and this is a great record for people to keep in mind. This is a track I have plans of putting on the radio and, like I said, the dope video is coming, so this song is getting all that attention.
What do you have to say about the chemistry you had with Nic Nac for that track? We have been working together since 2006 and we have known each other since 2005. We always get together and vibe out, so we know what we are capable of. So, the strong chemistry is there and we will continue to have that.
Should we expect more songs from you like “Jungle Fever?” Honestly, I give a little bit of everything on Maxwell Park. A lot of people are saying this is the best mixtape I have ever done. If people really listen to me, they know my music is diverse, I never intentionally give the same type of sound, I have a lot of stuff going on with the project and no song is like another song.
Can you tell us exactly what Maxwell Park is and why you chose this as the name of your project? You know, Maxwell Park is the district I grew up in in Oakland. They have a school and a park and me and my friends grew up here and played here. I named my project Maxwell Park because that place is a part of me and I felt like this was a good way to display myself and my life.
Will “Big Body” with Clyde Carson and Ty Dolla $ign be included on Maxwell Park? Yeah. That song is doing well and the music video for that song is out, so everybody should go check that out.
Who are some of the people who will be featured on this upcoming release and what should we expect? I got a bunch of people on this, E-40, Kreayshawn, Ray J, a bunch of artists, they are all dope. People are really going to like what I have going on and they should expect me to go hard. This is my first project in a year and a half, so they should expect to see my growth, I have only gotten better and this is music for people to have fun to in the summer and the fall.
Can you leave us your Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram so fans can follow you? Yeah. My Instagram @BobbyBrackins and my Facebook is Bobby Brackins. My Twitter is @BobbyBrackins too. Everything is Bobby Brackins and everybody be on the lookout for some good music, we are filling to board.
