In the weeks leading up to the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, MTV has dedicated a lot of attention to hip hop. They have sat down with many Brooklyn hip hop artists for their Brooklyn Week. This has included interviews with Troy Ave and Lil’ Kim, along with many others.

Thus far, the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards have not had much in terms of hip hop winning awards. Those who count Macklemore and Ryan Lewis may argue this, but most see it for what it is. Hip hop has always been treated as a third class genre and according to Lil’ Scrappy, it’s continuing tonight.

Noticing how the hip hop-inspired Miley Cyrus went overlooked despite having a major hit with “We Can’t Stop,” Lil’ Scrappy took to Twitter to vent. He first addressed the hip hop artists not winning. Lil’ Scrappy then pointed out how MTV has “shitted on” Miley Cyrus.
