Louisiana has a deep and interesting hip hop history that’s notable because each empire was run by hustlers. Kevin Gates emerged as the leader of the current hip hop landscape in Louisiana and he’s a hustler. His rise included a run-in with some OG Louisiana hustlers.
Currently, Kevin Gates is experiencing breakout success and this was predicted by The Powers That Be at Cash Money Records. Before the fame came his way, Birdman reached out to Kevin Gates. Ultimately, Kevin Gates decided that he would turn Cash Money Records down.
Kevin Gates is fresh off the release of his By Any Means mixtape and he’s making his rounds with the media. The Baton Rouge native recently took New York City and made his media rounds, visiting Sway at Shade 45 to talk to “Sway In The Morning.” Here, Kevin Gates discussed turning down Cash Money Records, having his Masters in Psychology, and going through depression.
