YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback (on Thursday): MC Lyte ft. Missy Elliott – “Cold Rock a Party (Bad Boy remix)”

Yesterday, things got so hectic that one important weekly feature ended up off the list. Thankfully, this morning, the team realized the oversight and came with a song we’ve intended to feature for some time. Often, people credit MC Lyte for her accomplishments.

Due to her youthful appearance, MC Lyte doesn’t look like a veteran of thirty years in the game. Then, because of her acting, and her announcing at the BET Awards, few current hip hop fans know her music. That’s what this segment is all about, reminding people.

MC Lyte was big, mostly in the 1980s, but she returned with some new music in 1996. By this time, Puff Daddy took over the game, and then there was Missy Elliott rising to become a major force. Fitting, the two of them would unite to give MC Lyte what would be her last charting single, “Cold Rock a Party,” better known as “Who rocks the party that rocks the bah-dee, I rock the party that rocks the bah-dee,” this week’s Wednesday Throwback.
