In terms of music style, the Jay-Z before Jay-Z was Big Daddy Kane. It should come as no surprise that Jay-Z came up under him as an opening act, before he finally broke through in 1996. Years later, Jay-Z continues to cite Big Daddy Kane as one of his biggest influences, meanwhile the legend has moved in circles outside of rap.
Big Daddy Kane has not released a new album since the mid-1990s. But, he has moved away, going to North Carolina and has lectured at a couple of the universities. A couple of times, Big Daddy Kane has made guest appearances on tracks and released some standalone singles.
Sway recently had Big Daddy Kane stop by Shade 45 for “Sway In The Morning.” Sitting down for an exclusive interview, Big Daddy Kane talked about his new shoe design and current rappers he’s motivated by. In the interview, Big Daddy Kane also talks about fashion in rap.
