Dwight Howard dunks Russell Westbrook’s airball
During the offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers made a plethora of moves designed to put them back into title contention. In 2020, the Lakers’ retooled roster won the championship, during the bubble. After signing LeBron James in 2018, the Lakers traded for Anthony Davis. The roster was rounded out with guys like Dwight Howard and Rajon Rondo, who came up big in the 2020 Finals, against Miami.
After the title, the Lakers lost much of the core that surrounded LeBron and AD. Still, the Lakers managed a 21-7 start to the season, and were holding the third seed in the West. However, injuries caught up with the Lakers, and they finished with the seventh seed. Due to the NBA’s new rules, the Lakers only qualified for the NBA Play-In Tournament, where they defeated the Golden State Warriors to play the Phoenix Suns.
Playing without Anthony Davis, LeBron James wasn’t enough to stop the Phoenix Suns. That first round playoff loss led to the Lakers bringing Dwight Howard and Rajon Rondo back. For injury insurance, they also brought Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony in. However, the Lakers have still struggled, mainly due to injuries, so Rondo was traded. Last night, the Lakers finally got back over .500, with their win over the Sacramento Kings.
Russell Westbrook has been the butt of jokes, due to missing a lot of open layups. Last night, Westbrook airballed a huge shot, but Dwight Howard caught the ball. He threw it down for a dunk, which brought the crowd to life, and off of their feet.
