Exotic Cars Loved by Hip Hop: Ferrari

Arguably more than Lamborghini and Maserati, Ferrari is one of the most-popular forms of exotic cars within the hip hop world. Well-known rapper and mogul, 50 Cent, went by the nickname ‘Ferrari’ early in his music career. Throughout the early part of his career, the G-Unit general was known for his red Ferrari and he made a song about it.

In countless music videos and in rap songs, the Ferrari is prominently featured. When he first launched his career, 50 Cent’s favorite car was the Ferrari  During his “Candy Shop” music video, 50 Cent drove off in a Ferrari. Hip hop has had an ongoing love affair with the Ferrari for some time, outside of 50 Cent.

Though, according to Twitter, they are no longer a duo, two years ago this was not the case where Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka Flame were concerned. When rappers and their mentors were teaming up for joint albums, inspired by Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch the Throne album, Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka Flame were the Ferrari Boyz. Music was inspired by the popular exotic car brand.

Though it takes a big budget to own, or even rent, a Ferrari, the car does come with a lifestyle of its own. Members of the hip hop community have jumped into this lifestyle head first. Last year, Jay-Z and Beyonce took the leap into parenthood and they had a custom-made Ferrari station wagon to cart daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, around. One of Jay-Z’s biggest detractors, Game, also has a love for the Ferraris, as he spent over $200,000 customizing his last July.

Many of the biggest names in hip hop own Ferraris and they often rap about them in their songs. For their music videos, these figures bring their vehicles out. Of course, hip hop’s first major international mogul, Diddy, is also the proud owner of a Ferrari. With it, brings an addictive lifestyle that the hip hop world flaunts to the legions of followers.

Ferrari 1Though it is probably on the “coming soon” list of Birdman and Diddy, the 2013 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta has yet to make its hip hop debut. Images of the vehicle first surfaced last February and the car remains a dream of most, as it is said to be the most-powerful vehicle ever. Over the next few months, the car is likely to appear in at least a music video.

Ferrari 2Perhaps one of the best-looking cars out, the Ferrari F70 Enzo is set to debut this spring. Last fall, Ferrari announced this vehicle was in the works. With the car set to be released in the next couple of weeks, the Enzo is set to be yet another vehicle for 50 Cent to rap about.

Ferrari 3Another looker is the 2013 Ferrari Spider. In past years, the Spider has been a fixture in hip hop. There are two subjects that are Diddy’s languare, one is money, and the other is the Ferrari Spider. Diddy is the proud owner of a Spider and it might be time for the Bad Boy honcho to get an upgrade.

Ferrari Jay-ZIn the spirit of hip hop bosses, no showcasing of Ferraris on a hip hop outlet would be complete about Jay-Z. The Brooklyn native has come a long way since the days of the Hawaiian t-shirts. Everything Jay-Z does is super-sized. With his return to the rap game, Jay-Z took over the media. When Beyonce revealed she was pregnant, the media immediately began following every move she made. Once the couple had their child, Blue Ivy Carter was the most-discussed infant on the planet. Jay-Z and Beyonce made sure they rolled in style, having a custom-made Ferrari station wagon to wheel their kid around in.

Ferrari 4In general, hip hop loves the Ferrari brand. However, the Ferrari 360 is a vehicle that has become highly-popular also. Another hip hopper owns a Ferrarri (of course). Fat Joe finds himself the proud owner of a Ferrari 360.

Ferrari 5Every Ferrari is a fan favorite, long before hip hop became as commercially-successful as it currently is, Bill Cosby famously told his granddaughter he wanted a Ferrari on “The Cosby Show”. In the years since then, the hip hop world has lived out Cosby’s dream and these guys are young enough to be the grandson of Cliff Huxtable. Game is a proud Ferrari owner and he also made major headlines last summer for the customization he got on his Ferrari F430.

Ferrari 6It is impossible to have a hip hop list about Ferraris without having 50 Cent mentioned. Though he owns several Ferraris, 50 Cent made a point of owning a Ferrari F50. Launched in 1995 and discontinued in 1997, the F50 was made in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Ferrari. On 50 Cent’s breakout anthem, “Wanksta,” his first words mention the F50 Ferrari. 50 Cent went on to add a large collection of Ferraris to his list over the years and even featured one in the “Candy Shop” music video.

Ferrari 7On “Lemme See,” with Usher, Rick Ross rapped about owning a Ferrari 458. However, Rick Ross made his bed with the Maybachs. When it comes to hip hop, Gucci Mane and his (former?) partner Waka Flocka Flame hold things down for the Ferrari lovers. The two came together for their Ferrari Boyz project, Gucci Mane revealed he owned a Ferrari 458 and that he also owned a Ferrari 612 Scagletti.
