Hip Hop Vibe’s Album of the Year: Rick Ross’ “Teflon Don”

Last year, Rick Ross promised he would deliver a classic album for 2010. Classic was an understatement as Rick Ross stepped things up on his fourth album. He has established himself as one of the true bosses of the game.

The year of 2010 was transitional for hip hop as the usual suspects were missing. Jay-Z did not release an album, T.I. was in prison, and Kanye West was on hiatus. But, Eminem finally solidified his comeback and dominated radio.

While Recovery was a critical and commercial success, it lacked the anthems of Rick Ross’ Teflon Don. As soon as the summer rolled around, Ross had provided fans with his Ne-Yo-assisted “Super High.” In the middle of the summer, the album came and it was bumped across the nation.

The album was full of anthems and was played constantly by die hard Rick Ross fans from the summer well into the latter part of the year. Sales do not do this album justice as Rick Ross proved he deserves to be in the same conversation with the likes of T.I., Lil Wayne, and Drake. With T.I. and Lil Wayne out of commission, it was Rick Ross who held down fans of Southern hip hop.

This album helped to fill a void and solidify an artist, which is why Rick Ross’ Teflon Don has been picked as Hip Hop Vibe’s Album of the Year for 2010.
