YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: Eve – “Who’s That Girl?”

Early in her career, it was easy for Eve to end up written off as a one hit wonder. While she was a member of Ruff Ryders, the Philly-bred Eve was the only female at a time when the female rapper became a gimmick. But, Eve always stood out because she was a real emcee.

In 2000, following 1999’s Let There Be Eve debut album release, Eve began working her way back. She had a standout verse on Missy Elliott’s single, “Hot Boyz,” going up against Nas and Q-Tip. Also featured was a then-unknown Lil’ Mo.

When 2001 rolled around, Eve made her triumphant return to the game with the “Who’s That Girl?” release. The song was a smooth, lyrical, and boastful return to the game, which Eve would soon own, setting femcee records that stood for a decade, until they were broken by Nicki Minaj. Going back to this era, this week’s Wednesday Throwback is “Who’s That Girl?,” the lead single from Scorpion.
