Back in 2007, Polow Da Don had an unlikely rise, and he took over the game behind an Alabama rapper named Rich Boy. He came through with 2007’s first major hit, “Throw Some D’s,” propelling him to superstardom. The next project was Keri Hilson.

Keri Hilson was signed to Timbaland’s label, which was a partnership with Interscope, as was Polow’s record. Despite a planned 2007 release date, her album was delayed to 2008, when she released “Energy.” The song didn’t perform well, leading to another delay.

Towards the end of 2008, Keri Hilson released a song called “Turn Off,” featuring Lil Wayne. Soon, she reworked the record, and Wayne altered his voice, creating “Turnin Me On,” which includes a nod to “Energy,” in the hook. The song, to date, is Hilson’s biggest single, and this week’s Wednesday Throwback.
