YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: Mase – “Breathe, Stretch, Shake”

In 1997, Mase was handed the keys to the rap game and immediately dropped Harlem World. After a year of doing features on remixes of the biggest records, Mase was a household name. That helped his first album cross platinum, seven times over.

Mase would return with his sophomore album, Double Up, announcing his retirement during the promo run. That was 1999 and Mase ended up being gone for five years, where he spent time as a pastor. He returned as a Christian rapper, delivering Welcome Back.

Following the title track, which became a minor hit, Mase released the more mainstream second single. Titled “Breathe, Stretch, Shake,” this song sounded as if it would become a hit. Unfortunately, the song would underperform, but it is this week’s Wednesday Throwback.
