YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: Whitney Houston – “Exhale”

By YRS Jerzy

When a big name passes away, usually there is so much speculation about their death, their life is overlooked. There is a big reason why Whitney Houston dying was such a big deal. Few artists dominated music how she did.

Whitney Houston emerged in the 1980s and immediately took the music world over. Whereas many other 80s artists endured a sharp decline, Whitney Houston only got bigger. When the 1990s began, she immediately posted two Billboard number one singles.

In 1995, Whitney Houston took on the Waiting To Exhale movie, taking on a starring role, alongside Loretta Devine, Angela Bassett, Lela Rochon, Donald Faison, the late Gregory Hines, Dennis Haysbert, and Mykelti Williamson. Whitney had the soundtrack’s lead single, “Exhale,” written and produced by Babyface. The song debuted at number one on Billboard, becoming the third single in history to do so, all from 1995.

There is so much history, here, with this one, so it is this week’s Wednesday Throwback. RIP Whitney.
