Over the weekend, 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson was shot and killed in her home by Fort Worth officer, Aaron Dean. Chief of Police Ed Kraus was set to announce Dean’s firing but he resigned today before that happened. That move looked like the Fort Worth PD actually tried to give him time so they wouldn’t have to fire him. As far as Jefferson’s murder, she was shot while playing video games and watching her eight-year old nephew. Dean went into the home after a neighbor noticed Jefferson’s door open and automatically shot her after telling her to put her hands up.
It looks like justice may be on the way as according to the Fort Worth Police Department, Dean has now been arrested and charged with murder for shooting and killing Jefferson. He is being held at the Tarrant County Jail. Kraus will hold a news conference tomorrow discussing the arrest.

Lee Merritt, an attorney for Jefferson’s family, released a statement on Twitter saying that they are relieved that Dean has been arrested and charged with murder. Merritt added that a vigorous prosecution & appropriate sentencing need to happen. He believes that the City of Fort Worth has much work to do to reform a brutal culture of policing.

We sadly see a lot of these racist trigger happy cops never get convicted of murder for killing innocent and unarmed black people and rarely face prison time these days. Hopefully, Atatiana Jefferson gets the justice she deserves and Dean is locked up for a very, very long time.
